Rodopi

The Rodopi mountain range, about 170 km across, is one of the last virgin places. After the war, most of the mountainous villages were abandoned forever. Today the forest, not grazed for more than 50 years, is continuously expanding. Rodopi is noted for its unique biodiversity and it truly is a botanic Paradise. It is the only place in Greece with Picea Abies and Betula Pendula forests. These cold-climate trees can only thrive in this part of the country. Give it a second thought before going there in winter...
